The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for current and future vacancies for the position of Environmental Officer. This position will be assigned to the Water Utilities Department, Solid Waste and Recycling Division.
The City of Oceanside’s dynamic Water Utilities Department is an industry-leading team looking to continue integrating top- level talent, innovative technology, resource efficiency and financial stability in our organization. This position oversees and coordinates the city’s recycling, solid waste and organics management programs to ensure City compliance with mandates as well as federal, state and local regulations.
This opening is designed for someone passionate about recycling, waste management and environmental issues. This position will work collaboratively with the city’s Green Oceanside staff to further environmental sustainability.
In this position you will also:
- Support staff by performing effective leadership, supervision and personnel management.
- Oversee the administration of policies and programs including compliance across City departments and within the community.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies and acts as a liaison with internal staff and outside agencies involved in environmental regulation.
- Serve as primary technical expert on matters involving regulation, environment, develop written reports and testimony, interact and negotiate with regulatory agencies, and interpret and implement complex environmental regulations
Experience and Training
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible environmental management experience.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science or a related field.
