Decatur Waste Program Lead - Decatur, IL
This is a full-time, exempt position.
An opportunity has arisen for a Waste Program Lead located in Decatur, IL. Reporting to the Decatur Complex Environmental Manager, this role will be a part of the EHS Center of Excellence and will directly support the Decatur Complex.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise and support in the categories of waste, asbestos, and refrigerant management for the entire ADM Decatur Complex.
- In accordance with ADM’s Environmental Management System, partner with plants to identify, create and execute improvement opportunities within the subject matter area
- Determine applicability of federal, state, and local waste, asbestos, and refrigerant regulations regarding ADM Decatur operations, communicate them to facilities, and develop processes and systems to ensure implementation. This includes site visits to ensure compliance activities are in place and correct.
- Complete Non-Special Waste certification applications and waste determinations.
- Prepare hazardous waste reports for the Decatur Complex large quantity generators and maintain site contingency plans.
- Monitor, evaluate and report ADM Decatur Complex Strive 35 performance and facilitate actions to improve performance.
- Serve as an effective interface between ADM’s Decatur Complex environmental team and ADM’s third-party waste vendor.
- Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders as well as regulatory agencies.
- Participate in compliance audits and assist in the development of Best Management Practices (BMP), as appropriate.
- Maintain site specific Asbestos Operations and Management plans for the Decatur Complex and ensure asbestos-containing materials are correctly managed. This includes asbestos abatement and necessary notifications.
- Maintain inventory of applicable refrigeration equipment using the facility’s refrigeration tracking software.

Additional Qualifications: - BS/BA degree in Engineering, Environmental Management or other related program preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience with progressive responsibility preferably in a process industrial environment.
- Knowledge and experience with Illinois and federal RCRA compliance requirements.
- Knowledge and experience with refrigerant management regulations and asbestos NESHAP.
- Must communicate effectively with engineering and operations technical staff, legal counsel, and regulatory agency personnel.
- This position requires the ability to work in a variety of conditions such as an office environment, indoors/outdoors, hot/cold weather as well as physical demands such as standing, kneeling, and sitting for prolonged periods of time, climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to work in confined spaces in a variety of environmental conditions
