Performs entry level work in conducting routine inspections and investigations, resolving simple complaints and inquiries concerning alleged violations of codes, ordinances, or state regulatory requirements. Assists higher-level code specialists and other staff in gathering information to be used in interpreting, developing, or enforcing applicable codes, ordinances, and related internal policies. Assists others in conducting inspections of private businesses to verify compliance with applicable county and state codes and regulations. Acts as liaison or mediator in resolving minor or less complex disputes. Assists more senior staff with preparations for and prosecutions of criminal and civil court cases. Assists more senior Code Specialists in dealing with code violations. Conducts investigations of violations and/or complaints of applicable county and state regulatory requirements. Prepares appropriate notices of violations. Prepares assignments and reports concerning issues related to routine inspections, investigations and resolution of simple complaints and inquiries concerning alleged violations of codes, ordinances, or state regulatory requirements. Performs routine assignments in reviewing and analyzing less involved complaints to determine adherence to departmental policy and appropriate codes, ordinances, and regulations. Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines. Reports unsafe working conditions. Complies with safety competencies. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”)Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the industry being regulated such as engineering, architecture, urban planning, biological or environmental science, public administration, law enforcement, legal studies or a related field.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:A valid driver's license.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee is required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date.
