The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in the field of Earth Materials, for fall 2022. Research interests may be in any area within the solid earth geosciences, including petrology, volcanology, mineralogy and related fields. We are most interested in applicants with expertise in state-of-the-art higher temperature mineralogical and petrological techniques and concepts that complement our existing programs in natural resources and economic geology, geophysics, geothermal energy, structural geology, and geochronology, among others. The candidate will be expected to attract research funding from external sources. The successful candidate will teach core geoscience courses such as igneous/metamorphic petrology, mineralogy and upper division or graduate courses in topics of their choice. Salary for this Assistant Professor position will be commensurate with experience.
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences at UTEP is a vibrant group of 22 faculty representing a wide variety of geology, geophysics, hydrology, environmental science, and geography expertise. The Department offers the following degrees: B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in in Geological Sciences, B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science, B.S. and M.S. in Geophysics, and a minor in Geography. The Department research portfolio addresses local to global challenges in the environment and natural resources fields while taking advantage of our regional geographic setting for research and education. Our integrative and collaborative efforts have resulted in research expenditures in excess of $10M over the last five years.
