The Solid Waste Compliance Coordinator job class represents the advanced professional level class. The incumbent performs a variety of management, compliance, administrative, operational, and educational functions relative to solid waste collection, diversion and recycling programs. The incumbent conducts professional administrative analysis and studies related to federal and state mandated solid waste programs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, biological sciences, natural resource management or a related field; AND three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in research, planning or implementation of solid waste recycling or diversion programs.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods of research, analysis and evaluation; analysis of statistical information; applicable laws and regulations of solid waste industry; principles, practices and trends of solid waste programs and planning; principles and techniques of contract management, budgeting and public relations; fundamentals of general accounting and budgetary practices; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; business math and statistics; and modern office methods and practices.
ABILITY TO: Perform statistical and administrative analysis; perform research with accuracy and develop objective recommendations; prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written and oral reports; read, understand, interpret and apply pertinent local state and federal requirements, procedures and policies; present and implement compliance solutions; forecast fiscal and operational impacts of regulations; monitor, track and utilize landfill software and prepare spreadsheets; read, understand, analyze and evaluate proposals and contacts; prepare and give public presentations and lead public meetings; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; represent the division with tact and diplomacy; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
