The City of Asheville's Public Works Department is seeking to fill a full-time Solid Waste Operations Manager in the Sanitation Division. The Solid Waste Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Sanitation Division in support of the City’s integrated solid waste management program. The Operations Manager plans and coordinates operational activities to ensure that waste management services are provided in an efficient, safe, effective, and sustainable manner for the Asheville community and plays a key role in developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. This position directly supervises 6 employees, and oversees a workforce of 34 employees. This position reports directly to the Solid Waste Manager. Major operational areas include trash collection, yard waste collection, and code enforcement.
This position generally works 37.5 hours Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. However, this position must also be available to work Fridays, evenings, weekends, holidays, during storms, during emergency situations, and during special events as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree in solid waste management, business management, project management, sustainability or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred), with a minimum of three (3) years of operational experience, three (3) years of operational experience to include planning and implementation of mission critical activities and continuous improvement processes, three (3) years of supervisory experience, and at least three (3) years budget management experience.
A High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of eight (8) years of operational management experience with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience, three (3) years of operational experience to include planning and implementation of mission critical activities and continuous improvement processes and at least three (3) years budget management experience.
