There are currently three (3) Wastewater Plant Operator III opening at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility (TMWRF).The City of Sparks is an Equal Opportunity Employer.DESCRIPTIONPerform operational duties and preventive maintenance on the full range of plant equipment for the continuous operation of a tertiary wastewater treatment plant. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis single class position is expected to operate the full range of secondary and tertiary treatment plant equipment and processes. Act as lead and direct the work of Wastewater Plant Operators in the absence of a crew supervisor.
Operate pumps, valves and other equipment via flow controllers, hand or mechanical means to regulate the flow of wastewater through various primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes. Maintain an even flow to assure maximum efficiency of plant equipment. Read meters, gauges, charts and instruments. Interpret data to ensure permit compliance. Act as the lead operator for a full range of sophisticated tertiary treatment plant equipment. Participate in evaluating equipment and building conditions for asset management purposes. Interpret process control tests and direct the adjustment of plant operations accordingly. Inspect plant facilities and recognize inefficient, unusual or dangerous operating conditions. Ensure safe, effective, efficient and legal plant operation. Take samples of wastewater, scum, grit, sludge and other materials at established times. Conduct standardized control tests. Perform recordkeeping functions and prepare oral and written reports. Log plant operations, test results, maintenance work performed and unusual operating conditions encountered. Interpret plant piping and distribution diagrams. Analyze and recommend improved methods and procedures. Inspect plant equipment and report any failures or operating difficulties. Initiate work orders and requests for equipment repairs. Stop and start equipment as required for repairs. Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance of plant equipment and facilities. Inspect assigned cleaning area, make a list of cleaning needs and implement a list with assigned shift to be sure the cleaning duties are carried out. Train and provide work instruction to less experienced operators during an assigned shift. Responsible for safety procedures and subordinate safety training, holds tailgate safety meetings. Perform other duties which may be assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Physical Demands:Requires ability to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Requires sufficient vision, hearing and manual dexterity to perform assigned duties and sufficient strength and stamina to climb stairways and ladders, walk and stand for extended periods of time and to maneuver hoses and other equipment and tools. Must be willing to work in a chemical and biological industrial environment which includes any chemicals used in the biological wastewater treatment process. Must be able to wear and work in self-contained breathing apparatus. SUPPLEMENTAL JOB INFORMATION
Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications to continue in the recruitment process: Education and Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of related plant operations experience within a wastewater plant, in which two (2) years are at a level equivalent to the City's class of Wastewater Plant Operator II. Licenses and Certificates:Must possess at time of hire and maintain throughout employment, a current Nevada Grade III Plant Operator's Certificate. Must possess at time of hire and maintain throughout employment, a forklift certification.Specified positions may require possession and maintenance of the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire.Civil Service Testing:A Training and Experience Questionnaire is the Civil Service Exam for this position.
