The Dougherty County Solid Waste Department has a vacancy for a Solid Waste Director. Employee in this position is responsible for, but not limited to: managing the overall operations of the Dougherty County Landfill and the Albany/Dougherty Solid Waste Management Plan in accordance with state and federal regulations; managing consultants under contract to complete design plans, construction projects, environmental stamping and reporting; preparing short term and long term departmental budgets and overseeing expenditures; developing safety standards, policies and procedures; directing equipment maintenance program; approving equipment specifications and purchases; preparing and presenting reports; completing site inspections; developing and coordinating solid waste programs, facilities, planning and public education to promote a positive image of the landfill. Reports to the Assistant County Administrator.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, or Business Administration or closely related field with six (6) years of progressively responsible solid waste management, landfill operations or related experience; at least three (3) years of which were in a supervisory capacity or any related equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skill and ability to do the work of the position. Must be Landfill certified or able to acquire certification within twelve (12) months of employment.
