The City of Springfield's Department of Environmental Services is seeking qualified applicants for a Professional Engineer (with option to underfill as an Engineer III) in the Sewer Engineering and Development division.Environmental Services is responsible for protecting the quality of the water resources in and around Springfield. With over 1,400 miles of extensive and growing sanitary sewer infrastructure, Springfield has an award-winning wastewater collection and treatment system that is widely recognized as one of the most innovative wastewater utilities in the country. The department has multiple projects ongoing to rehabilitate parts of the system to improve functionality and extend its lifespan. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining compliance with the City's municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater permit, the operations of a regional solid waste landfill, and multiple recycling centers.The Department is currently looking for an engineer with a background in sanitary sewer planning and design to lead the department's evaluation and design of new trunk lines and sewer districts which expand the collection system, new residential and commercial connections to the system, and planning related to sewer capacity and life cycle analysis necessary to support new development and infill redevelopment within the city.
