The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) are seeking an organized and detail-oriented candidate to work as an Environmental Analyst. This position will involve sampling and office activities associated with the three major Division of Water lake monitoring programs run by the Lake Monitoring and Assessment Section (LMAS), encompassed in the Bureau of Water Assessment and Management (BWAM) - the Lake Classification and Inventory (LCI) survey, the New York Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP), and the New York Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) program. The incumbent will prepare for the start of the lake sampling field season and complete sampling for the LCI, CSLAP and HABs programs, conduct database work in support of these sampling activities, assist LMAS and BWAM staff through data analysis, GIS mapping, and database outputs, in conducting outreach and reporting for the LCI, CSLAP and HABs programs.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, geography, computer science, or related field. Previous water quality sampling and database experience is preferred, specifically experience collecting and working with lake water quality data, analysis, and reporting. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and relational databases preferred. Previous experience operating and trailing small boats and experience with the statistical computing software (R) or other comparable statistical tools helpful.
