GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Operator in charge of overall management and supervision of the Water Pollution Control Facilities, which include a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and nine remote pump stations. Also responsible for the deep tunnel interceptor and the force mains from Third Avenue Pump Station to the WWTP. Plans, staffs, directs, and controls administration of the operation and maintenance of the WPC Facilities. Oversees the Environmental Compliance Unit (ECU) Laboratory and Industrial Pre-treatment Program (IPP) operations. Performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director and/or administrator who reviews work and gives direction.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Exercises full supervision over all employees of the Water Pollution Control Division engaged in all phases of the operation and maintenance of the facilities.

The physical demands of this position includes but are not limited to occasionally working near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
