The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is a multi-user, core facility supporting UWA’s research goals. It comprises a diverse range of instruments from basic to advanced, including the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility (AMMRF) Flagship Ion Probe Facility that houses three state-of-the-art instruments, one of the best-equipped Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) facilities in the world. These three SIMS instruments are CAMECA IMS 1280, CAMECA NanoSIMS 50 and CAMECA NanoSIMS 50L.
This position will require an expert in isotopic systems relevant to geoscience to undertake academic leadership and management of the CAMECA IMS 1280 laboratory, while maintaining the Facility’s position at the forefront of geochemical analysis within Australia. Key responsibilities of this position will include day to day management of the laboratory, user training and maintenance of the facility as well as performing the full range of academic activities including teaching, research and student supervision through affiliation with the School of Earth Sciences at UWA. As academic leader, this role will represent the facility locally, nationally and internationally, and be the main point of contact for users and stakeholder who support the facility’s activities.
With the ability to lead and manage a multi-user facility and demonstrated experience with Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and large-geometry ion probes, the successful appointee will demonstrate the following:
Prior experience with the CAMECA IMS1280 ion probe as well as a range of in situ analysis techniques, such as LA-ICPMS, EPMA, SEM, computer programming and statistical evaluation of data will be highly considered.
