The Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join Earth and Environmental Observations group (EES-14) and participate in an experimental program aimed at investigation of the behavior of heavy metals in sub- and super-critical aqueous fluids. The program is primarily focused on determination of thermodynamic properties of aqueous species at high T and P and of co-existing solid phases and solid solutions. The main field of interest for the program is the behavior of Rare Earth Elements (Lanthanides+Y+Sc) and Actinides, but the list of elements of interest can be expanded as the project evolves. This role will collaborate with scientists from our hydrothermal group, our internal collaborators, focusing their studies on calorimetric techniques; our internal and external collaborators, focusing their study on the XAS synchrotron-based spectroscopy; and theoreticians supporting our experimental efforts. The funding for the position is available for the period from October 1st 2018 until September 30st 2021. Initial post-doctoral appointments are for two year periods, but extensions are possible.
Candidates with experience in high-temperature hydrothermal experiments, XAS, Raman, or UV-vis in situ high temperature spectroscopy are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with DFT or AIMD calculations will be considered as an asset.
Notes to applicants:
Please provide a current CV, contact information for at least 3 referees, and a cover letter addressing how you meet all of the required skills when applying for the position. Only complete applications with a cover letter and C.V. will be considered. References will not be contacted without permission from the applicant. In addition to applying on-line, applicants should send their application package to Dr. Artaches Migdissov (aka. Artas Migdisov) at email@example.com
