Under the general direction of the Assistant General Manager, Wastewater Enterprise (AGM, WWE) at the SFPUC, the WWE Operations Manager is responsible for directing the operation of all wastewater treatment plants and processes, pumping stations, and WWE facilities in compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations; performs responsible technical and administrative work in connection therewith; handles planning, troubleshooting and policy making for the Operations Division, and performs related duties as required.
The WWE has a workforce of approximately 450 employees, with a total operating budget of $57 million. WWE operates and maintains four treatment plants, eight major pump stations, and eleven minor pump stations in San Francisco. The WWE Operations Manager is responsible for operating these facilities under NPDES permits issued by the state, under EPA delegation; interacting with other divisions, bureaus, and City departments to coordinate efforts; coordinating operations activities with plant and pump station capital and construction projects to ensure that operations are not disrupted and regulatory requirements are met; ensuring that odor issues are minimized; promoting safe work practices; ensuring that subordinates adhere to all safety practices, policies and regulations; monitoring Division staff discipline and performance management, and overseeing WWE’s Employee Health and Safety and WWE Emergency Planning and Response Programs.
