The Solid Waste Superintendent position is assigned to the Customer Engagement Services Division and will oversee the Special Operations North and South Regions. Camelback Road is the boundary that splits the two Special Operations Regions. Both regions are responsible for providing the following services; Residential Barrel Delivery, Roll-Off, Front-Load and Tipper services to support the City of Phoenix, Solid Waste Programs, specialize collections services such as the Appliance Pick-up Program, Monsoon and Emergency Response Program and Special Event collections. In addition, this position will manage the Mobile Engagement Team section which consist of Solid Waste Supervisors, Environmental Specialists and Lead Environmental Specialists who engage and educate citywide residents on Phoenix City Code, Chapter 27, attend Community Block Watch, Homeowner Association (HOA) and Neighborhood meetings during non-business hours and manage Executive Management and Director’s Office requests from constituents involving Solid Waste services and programs. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Deputy Director or higher and require considerable initiative and independent judgement within an assigned area of responsibility.
Public Works Department is looking for an energetic and innovative person who can assist the City by identifying new and creative ways to increase the waste diversion efforts through specialized collection services. This position will also to ensure daily business operations and standards are met, customer service delivery is performed timely, accurate and efficient and maintain compliance regulations. The Solid Waste Superintendent will coordinate collection services for refuse and recycling, metal bin and tipper delivery and container repair services for the Downtown Core and citywide Special Events; and work closely with contract personnel on the Container Warranty Replacement Program and with administrative support staff on the e-procurement and the electronic delivery processes. Responsibilities will also include conducting internal audits, develop Standard Operating Procedures and training manuals, Asset Management and equipment specification writing, Inventory Control and Tracking as well as proficiency in monitoring the Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) and Business Intelligence System databases to identify efficiencies and ensure performance and productivity standards are achieved. The Superintendent position will work with the various bargaining units and one management organization to fulfill the organization’s mission, manage the section’s budget and perform high level supervisory duties. This position also serves as a Division liaison for the Monsoon and Emergency Response Program, community liaison by attending forums and meetings with staff and citizen groups and writing reports on the outcomes. Customer service and interaction with employees is considerable.
