MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct independent research using pore-scale and/or volume-averaged simulation approaches of geochemical reactions in porous and fractured rock cores. Collaborate with ORNL researchers on the design and execution of chemical imaging experiments and reactive transport simulations. Present and report research results and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements. Maintain strong dedication to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A strong background in reactive transport simulation in porous media and geochemistry. Experience with modeling dual porosity systems, such as fractured media (pore scale or/and continuum scale simulations). Record of collaboration with experimentalists, especially comparison to observations of mineral precipitation/dissolution and fluid compositions. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in English to an international scientific audience. Excellent record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals. The abilities to be a self-starter, to work independently and to participate creatively in a collaborative team effort. Ability to function well in a dynamic research environment, set priorities, multi- task and adapt to ever changing needs. Background in simulating precipitation and dissolution of minerals and effluent water composition. Basic experience with combining experimental data with models, defining initial parameters for simulations from experimental findings.
OTHER INFORMATION: The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
