The Solid Waste Special Events Operations Manager is assigned to the Customer Engagement Services Division. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Deputy Director or higher and require considerable initiative and independent judgement within an assigned area of responsibility. This position is responsible for providing direct oversight, technical knowledge and leadership experience to several functions in the area of support services and will supervise special event management activities for the Division. The Solid Waste Special Events Operations Manager is responsible for collaborating and coordinating with the Special Events Committee, external representatives such as organizations, sponsors, exhibitor services, and other City Department personnel to ensure Solid Waste services and programs are represented to achieve the highest level of waste diversion. Responsibilities include directing and coordinating staff activities necessary to support various large events and activities, ensuring compliance and event satisfaction, supervising work standards analysis, long range planning, audit tracking and calculation of waste diversion efforts.
This position will manage the Solid Waste Household Hazardous Waste and Internal Recycling and School Recycling Programs to educate communities, City employees, non-profits and institutions about the City’s Reimage Phoenix Initiative. Additionally, the Special Events Operations Manager will work closely with the public attending events by answering complaints, troubleshooting and monitoring services provided, consulting with the Special Events Committee Liaisons and others concerning physical set-up needs and requirements for assigned areas, overseeing the computing of costs for billing of special collection services and the use for specialized equipment and will perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others. Additional responsibilities will also include analyzing policies and procedures for effectiveness, developing work standards and prepare administrative reports as required, marketing the Solid Waste service and program and engaging the community. This position must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, have the ability to communicate well with professional individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one or group setting, or by telephone and be able to produce professional written documents with organized thoughts and proper construction, punctuation and grammar. Having the ability to problem solve and resolve issues in a timely, effective manner is a requirement for this position.
