Education: BS, MPH, MSPH, MS in Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety and/or related fields. Certification through the ABIH would be an asset.
Experience: Two years of experience working as an industrial hygienist or environmental health consultant is preferred.
Important Skills and Characteristics: Knowledge in water hygiene, premise plumbing, and maintenance and remediation of water systems (e.g., cooling towers, swimming pools, hot tubs, decorative fountains). Expertise in environmental risk assessment of waterborne pathogens. Able to conduct environmental health investigations and understand water system construction and operation failures to may allow Legionella bacteria to be present and proliferate in building plumbing systems. Knowledge of how environmental health supports public health laboratory and epidemiology in the identification, control, and prevention of a disease outbreak. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and is familiar with email/internet browser software. Works well in team situations, is self-motivated, meets deadlines, and handles multiple tasks at one time with minimal supervision. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to present scientific and technical information to audiences.
