Responsible for safely managing the overall and daily operations of the NEW Water Laboratory and Research Department. Manages all aspects of running the department and providing accurate and timely analytical information to comply with Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) requirements, monitoring the treatment plant’s effectiveness, generate customer billings, support the Industrial Pretreatment and Aquatic Monitoring Program (AMP).
Manages the work of a technical staff engaged in a wide variety of laboratory sampling, analysis, and quality control functions. Accountable for meeting the training and developmental needs of all department staff and for influencing the technical capabilities of each individual, as well as fostering a team environment.
Duties also include responsibility for maintaining compliance with State and Federal regulations, data validation and reporting, customer service, and serving as a liaison with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) on matters related to laboratory certification. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Environmental Programs and is reviewed through annual performance evaluations, conferences, observation of results and reports/records of testing output quality and efficiency.
Plans, administers, and reviews laboratory testing and research program areas that are facility focused and meet organizational goals in consultation with treatment, field services and watershed management.
