Full Time - Experienced
The Wastewater Treatment Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor is a highly skilled management position that performs a variety of specialized technical and supervisory tasks in support of the Maintenance Division in the Wastewater Group. The position is assigned to supervise programs and personnel in maintaining a large activated sludge wastewater treatment plant and/or 98 pump stations located throughout the city. Under general direction of the Division Manager, the Wastewater Treatment O&M Supervisor plans, schedules, organizes, and directs a work unit and program comprised of skilled personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of large wastewater collection, pumping and treatment facilities; plans, develops, and monitors the budget for a work unit program; plans, evaluates, and monitors the performance of assigned staff; provides for program support and participation with internal and external stakeholders; and provides leadership to create an inclusive, high-performing, service-oriented and positive work environment. The Wastewater Treatment O&M Supervisor is responsible for formulating and developing work unit goals and objectives and directing day-to-day activities. Work and results are reviewed through regular individual and team meetings, direct observation, inspection and analysis of records, reports and performance metrics. This position also plays a critical role in participating in the Call-Out Coordinator duty rotation several times a year for coordinating after-hours response to urgent system needs. The following attributes are also highly desired, but not required:
Progressively responsible work and/or leadership experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a wastewater collection, pumping and treatment system or another closely-related field;
Relevant college-level course work and/or technical training;
The demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership to create an inclusive, high-performing, service-oriented work environment that supports the City's and Bureau mission while promoting workplace equity and a positive employee relations environment.
The demonstrated ability to identify core competencies and develop employee learning and development plans.
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
Knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of employee supervision, including directing staff and evaluating staff performance.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and machinery common to a wastewater collection, pumping and/or treatment system.
Knowledge of safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
The ability to analyze complex program, administrative, and operational issues, evaluating alternatives and reaching sound, logical and fact-based conclusions and recommendations.
The ability to coordinate program activities with multiple stakeholders, facilitate development of partnerships, and communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
