Solid Waste Equipment Operator I: $16.37 - $22.10 per hour
Solid Waste Equipment Operator II: $18.98 - $25.63 per hour
This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.
5:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; schedule varies between weekday and weekend shifts.

The Solid Waste Equipment Operator performs routine tasks, semi-skilled and/or skilled tasks in the operation of front-loaders, roll-offs, side-loaders, rear-loaders, skid steer or similar equipment, and performs heavy manual labor for collection, transporting and disposing of solid waste materials from residential and commercial sources.

Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt – eligible for overtime compensation and/or compensatory time.

Solid Waste Equipment Operator I:
Requires the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented with completion of a commercial driver-training program. Must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Solid Waste Equipment Operator II:
Requires the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by applicable training in solid waste equipment operation. Must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Requires some experience in skid steer or similar equipment operation and knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules for operating a class A commercial vehicle; including experience reading and understanding route maps and street signs.
Must meet the minimum qualifications of a Solid Waste Equipment Operator I and two years of increasingly responsible full time solid waste experience in front-loader operation, roll-off operation, side-loader operation, rear-loader operation and/or heavy equipment operation.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Certification, Licenses, and/or Registrations: Requires the possession of a valid Arizona Class A driver’s license.
