Supervision Received: Works under the direction of Shift Supervisor of the Mattabassett District.Supervision Exercised: None except when specifically specified.
General Statement of Duties: On an assigned shift collects samples of sewage and sludge for laboratory analysis; operates required valves and pumps pertinent to sewage treatment and for sludge disposal and makes adjustments and necessary; under the general supervision of a Shift Supervisor, operates all equipment pertinent to sewage treatment including belt filter presses, vacuum filter, incinerators, and makes adjustments as necessary; reads meters and charts and records findings, performs general custodial duties; makes up chemical solutions; cuts grass; operates power lawn mower; operates motor equipment including large and small trucks; performs semi-skilled and unskilled labor; cleans bar screens, conveyors and other such equipment as required; (under the general supervision of a Shift Supervisor, makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment as required); does daily and shift lubrication, greasing and oiling of all equipment as required; does related work as required.
Minimum Skill and Ability: General practical knowledge of the duties of semi-skilled and unskilled labor practices. Ability to work with tools; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to keep operating records; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment; ability to get along with fellow workers; ability to follow and employ standard safety practices; ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance; some skill in the use and care of hand tools; working knowledge of modern sewage treatment practices and methods.
Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or accredited technical school and at least one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant and facilities or preferably at least four years of work experience which has afforded the opportunity to become acquainted with the practices required of any semi-skilled and unskilled labor work requirements or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license.
