Under broad policy guidance and direction from County administration, the Environmental Services Director performs complex professional and managerial work directing the operations of the Environmental Services Department which encompasses a diverse workforce of over 300 employees. The Environmental Services Department provides protection through food programs, water, solid waste and liquid waste programs, vector operations, landfill, transfer station, and maintenance activities. Minimum education and/or experience: A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Environmental Health, Public Health Administration, Engineering, Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, a biological science or a closely related field and ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in management, administration, development or technical direction of an environmental program, preferably in a public sector environment including at least five (5) years of supervisory or managerial experience. Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements: Registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Arizona or proof of eligibility for reciprocity or Registration as a Professional Engineer. Preferred education and/or experience: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental or public health, public or business administration, a biological science, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement, excluding the supervisory experience.
