La Crosse County has an opportunity for a Solid Waste Director, which is a professional and administrative position responsible to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Solid Waste Department. Exercises considerable independent judgment in county-wide solid waste matters under the policy guidance of the Public Works & Infrastructure Committee and the supervision of the County Administrator.Starting salary depends on qualifications: $84,718.40 - $111,529.60This full-time (40 hrs/wk), salaried position qualifies for our excellent benefits package! •Bachelor's degree in Recycling or Waste Resource Management, Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Science or related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.•Preference given for related advanced degree.•Four years' experience in sanitary landfill operations, solid waste management or environmental protection.•Have and maintain Wisconsin Certification as a Landfill Manager. If no certification at the time of hire, must complete interim training while awaiting the twice-annual, DNR-approved training and examination.•Have and maintain valid driver's license to operate County vehicle.•Possess excellent oral and written communication skills to negotiate favorable contracts for the County.
