The City of Albert Lea is currently hiring a Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent to manage and supervise daily operations and staff (9) of a class A wastewater facility. The superintendent is responsible for the maintenance of work records, budgets, and inventory, including data analysis and writing reports, developing and implementing safety, maintenance, and emergency procedures and preparations.
The Albert Lea Wastewater Treatment Plant was constructed and placed into operation in 1983. The WWTP was designed for 12.5-million gallons per day (MGD) of flow, 22,000 lbs. per day of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and 20,000 lbs. per day of total suspended solids (TSS). Currently, the plant receives an average flow of 5.0 MGD, between 12,000 and 18,000 lbs. of BOD, and between 9,000 lbs. to 11,000 lbs. of TSS. The plant has its heaviest load during winter months. Treatment includes preliminary treatment, primary clarification, secondary sludge, nitrification aeration, effluent filtration and disinfection; along with the following biosolid components: dissolved air flotation, primary and secondary digestion, biosolid thickening and storage. The WWTP also oversees a pretreatment program which currently has nine (9) industries.

Completion of a vocational/technical training program in wastewater treatment and six (6) years of experience operating a wastewater treatment plant of at least a B level, including three years as a lead operator or supervisor; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential function of the job. Must have a valid Minnesota Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's certificate with Land Applicator’s Type IV certificate and valid MN state drivers license class B.
