Miami-Dade County, Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is seeking an experienced, progressive, innovative and dynamic leader for the Assistant Director of Disposal Operations position, who will assist in planning, organizing and directing the Department’s complex Transfer, Landfill and Waste Enforcement Operations. The position is responsible for performing highly responsible executive level work, exercising extensive independent judgment and providing direct supervision to directors of the Transfer, Landfills and Enforcement Divisions.
The ideal candidate would have extensive experience and a proven track record in planning, directing and coordinating solid waste management disposal operations functions within a large solid waste operation that evidences an understanding of industry best practices, the ability to analyze complex problems and provide logical and strategic solutions and supervise a large number of employees through a chain-of-command structure, to achieve desired operational results. The ideal candidate must also have the capacity to effectively grow and sustain a high level of collaboration, innovation and productivity, critical to the department’s success and sustainable future.
DSWM has been recognized nationally by the National Association of Counties (NACo) for its innovative achievements in the waste industry, and recognized both nationally and internationally for its Mosquito Control Zika response efforts.
DSWM provides customers with exceptional waste collection, recycling and disposal services that protect, preserve and improve our environment and the quality of life in our community. The Department offers waste collection and recycling services to over 300,000 households in unincorporated Miami-Dade County and nine municipalities, including Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Sunny Isles Beach, as well as mosquito control for Miami-Dade County. Additionally, the Department operates the most technologically advanced waste-to-energy facility in the world and continues to plan for the long-term future by evaluating the necessary services and programs to meet the community’s needs for the next 50 years.
Bachelor's degree. A minimum of six years of professional responsible experience in solid waste management to include supervisory experience is required.
Solid Waste Association of North America Training and Certifications is preferred.
