Plans, directs, and manages the administration of an advanced state-of-the-art certified laboratory and administers the county EPA approved Pretreatment Program. Stays current on environmental regulations affecting the wastewater industry. Ensures Clean Water Act compliance and provides enforcement of Pretreatment Program requirements under county, state and federal law. The laboratory conducts environmental monitoring, and control programs for streams, estuary, wastewater, stormwater, reuse water, groundwater, leachate, air, sediment, sludge, and industrial waste. Oversees outreach, education and sewer science programs for Wastewater Management. Represents the county on several inter-jurisdictional committees. Provides technical expertise, policy input and interpretation on environmental regulations and issues. Facilitates and coordinates environmental initiatives cross cutting county agencies. Negotiates and administers various supporting contracts both technical and non-technical in nature. Directs and leads a technical staff of 20 professionals including managers, supervisors, environmental technologists and code specialists.
