Northrop Grumman Missions Systems sector is seeking an Industrial Hygienist 4 to ensure that all Occupational Health related programs, required by the California Occupational Health & Safety Administration (Cal OSHA), are implemented and managed to meet regulatory compliance. This position will be located in Sunnyvale, CA. The successful candidate must be capable to perform the job without appreciable direction and supervision, provide extensive technical expertise in the industrial hygiene rubrics, and effectively communicate technical approaches and finding to the upper management and represented employees. The Industrial Hygienist analyzes complex problems and develops solutions based on sound industrial hygiene principles.
Roles and responsibilities of the Industrial Hygienist 4 include, but are not limited to, the following: • Performs assessments in industrial plant to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control occupational health hazards or environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community. • Coordinates and conducts the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; measures the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups. • Prepares rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the healthful conduct of all work practices and the prevention of hazardous or nuisance exposure to the surrounding community. • Directs epidemiologic studies to discover possibilities of the presence of occupational disease and to establish or improve threshold limit values or standards as guides for the maintenance of health and efficiency. • Reviews present and proposed standards and surveys new installations. • Audits programs and conditions at all facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation. • Conducts EHS training, as needed. • Administers respiratory and hearing protection fit tests.Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor degree in the biological sciences or public health and a minimum of 9 years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene. • Comprehensive understanding of health effects and control measures for welding, grinding, abrasive blasting and other metal fabrication operations. • Comprehensive understanding of health effects and control measures for physical and chemical agents. • Willingness and ability to pursue a professional certification CIH in industrial hygiene. • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master’s degree in biological sciences or public health with professional certification in industrial hygiene (CIH). • Training or background as a radiation safety officer (RSO) and laser safety officer (LSO). • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
