The Cambria Community Services District, located on the beautiful central coast of California approximately five miles south of Hearst Castle and 15 miles north of Morro Bay, seeks qualified and highly motivated individuals with a strong work ethic to apply for the position of Wastewater Operator Grade II.
The Cambria Community Services District serves a population of approximately 6500 and Cambria is considered one of the most desirable places to live in California. As defined under the Public Employee Pension Reform Act (PEPRA), miscellaneous "non-classic" employees (aka new members) hired after January 1, 2013 shall be covered under the CalPERS 2% at 62 retirement benefit, including the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation, and the employees shall pay one hundred percent (100%) of the employee paid member contribution, through a payroll deduction. Eligibility for other benefits provided to “non-classic employees” under this MOU through CalPERS (as stated above) shall be determined by the provisions of PEPRA for "non-classic employees" aka new members.
The District shall provide the PERS 2% @ 60 retirement plan for covered employees who are “classic” members hired on or after October 1, 2012 up through December 31, 2012, including the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation, and the employees shall pay one hundred percent (100%) of the employee paid member contribution, through a payroll deduction.
Under the supervision of the wastewater department supervisor, the Wastewater Operator Grade II operates the District’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system; to perform a wide variety of operation and maintenance duties; and to do related work as required. Knowledge of principles and practices of a wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical analyses; types and functions of equipment commonly used; safety requirements and practices required for systems operation and maintenance. Ability to perform routine operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and the collection system; perform property testing procedures of routine analysis; record pertinent information in logs and records; and maintain cooperative working relationships.
The required qualifications for the Wastewater Operator Grade II is one and one half years of experience as a Grade I in the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant and the possession of a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification/California State Water Resources Control Board. High School graduate or equivalent. Valid California class “B” driver’s license within six (6) months. Must maintain a satisfactory DMV record and ability to maintain insurability.

The required qualifications for the Wastewater Operator Grade III is three years of experience as a Grade II in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and one and one-half years in a supervisory role. Applicants who have passed the Grade III Wastewater Operator exam and can obtain the education and experience requirements within one year of hire date will be allowed to apply. Valid California class “B” driver’s license within six (6) months. Must maintain a satisfactory DMV record and ability to maintain insurability. Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, or a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board and proof of successfully passing of the Grade 3 certification exam and proof of ability to obtain certification within one year of hire date.
