The City of Albany is currently recruiting to fill an Environmental Services Technician II - Industrial Pretreatment position. The Industrial Pretreatment Program protects the environment and the Albany-Millersburg Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) by regulating potentially harmful wastewater discharges from commercial and industrial sources. By ensuring that discharge regulations are met, we improve the ability to treat the Cities wastewater and better provide protection to the receiving waters of the Willamette River. The candidate will be part of the Environmental Services Division of Public Works-Operations, and work with a team of Industrial Pretreatment and Water Quality professionals working with many different types of businesses and industries. The candidate will contribute to the Environmental Services Team through writing and managing permits, performing inspection and enforcement, water quality sampling (both manually and automated sampling), and interpretation/tracking of laboratory results as it related to compliance and billing of industrial users. Duties also include frequent written and oral communication with industry representatives, responding to spills and customer complaints, managing environmental data, assisting with fats/oils/grease program implementation, and other projects are assigned as needed. Experience with regulatory program implementation at the local, state and federal level highly desirable. Knowledge of environmental data handling and record keeping as well as attention to detail is a must for this position. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE An Associate's degree in water/wastewater technology, engineering, biology, environmental science, or closely related field; and three (3) years' experience in industrial wastewater pretreatment, stormwater, or other similar program related to environmental quality; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in science, environmental engineering, or a related field is desirable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES General knowledge of: industrial pretreatment program requirements; wastewater treatment, laboratory practices and procedures; personal computers for word processing, spreadsheet, and database application programs; and procedures and regulations pertaining to workplace safety, confined space work, and working in hazardous and potentially hazardous locations.Skill in: operation of listed tools and equipment used; operation and maintenance of wastewater monitoring equipment; and concise report writing, investigation, and enforcement in response to noncompliance.Ability to: communicate effectively with the public concerning regulatory programs; write clear and concise reports; read and interpret technical written materials, drawings, and blueprints; understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; and deal with customers or citizens who may be dissatisfied or irate. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSPossession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license.
