Clifton Sanitation District, located on the Western Slope of Colorado is seeking a highly motivated and outgoing individual to fill a Wastewater Operator position. This full-time position performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and non-skilled technical duties in the operation and maintenance of the District’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The District operates a 2.5 MGD activated sludge oxidation ditch wastewater treatment facility with aerobic digestion and centrifuge dewatering. The Plant Operator, as a part of the team, will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the treatment plant and sanitary sewer collection system. We are seeking an individual that is self-motivated, shows cooperative team spirit, and is safety oriented. Weekend, holiday, and on-call work is required.
The primary duties include: making daily inspections of treatment process components & equipment; regularly monitoring plant functions through gauges, graphs, meters, control panels and computerized monitoring systems and by performing process control tests and evaluating test results to determine treatment process requirements; collecting samples from various treatment processes throughout the facility; performing a variety of laboratory tests; preparing all paperwork for sampling; cleaning screens, tanks, pipes, clarifiers, basins, and pumps; monitoring and documenting plant activities; calculating flow rates and chemical dosages; calibrating chemical feed systems; performing facility and equipment preventative maintenance tasks; making emergency repairs to plant equipment and facilities; calibrating laboratory and field instruments and on line monitoring equipment; and performing minor building maintenance and custodial tasks.
Preferred candidates should have a Level A, B or C Wastewater certification, a minimum of two years’ experience in water or wastewater treatment facility operations, plus a high school diploma (or equivalent), supplemented by college level courses in chemistry or related fields. One must be capable of performing math and chemistry calculations and laboratory testing procedures. Working knowledge of SCADA, plus computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Windows preferred. Must also possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and have the ability to obtain a Colorado CDL license within six months of hire. Any combination of experience, training, and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is preferred but willing to train the right candidate. It is important to have good verbal and written communication skills and be a self-starter. Must live or relocate to within 15-30 minutes of system boundaries to respond to emergency call duties and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Excellent benefit package: Non-exempt $17.70/Hr. - $31.23/Hr.
