Position: Assistant Plant Mechanic
Full Range: $19.07 Start - $26.19 + benefits

To perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and service of water treatment plant equipment, machinery and related facilities. This position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.
Example of Duties:
Receives general supervision from the Water treatment plant supervisor and/or Lead plant mechanic to maintain, repair and service machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, motors, engines, meters, drives, tanks and compressors. Implement preventative maintenance programs and schedules. Perform preventative maintenance checks and servicing on equipment. Read charts, gauges and meters to determine status of the RO and Greensand plants and well houses. Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools in the performance of assigned maintenance tasks including hand tools, drills, pumps and air compressors. Pack, lubricate, clean and paint pumping equipment and motors. Inspect and recommend the approval of work performed by outside contractors. Purchase and requisition supplies, materials, parts and equipment. Other duties as assigned.
Methods, materials and tools used in the repair of equipment and machinery including pumps, valves and motors. Principles and practices of water and wastewater treatment. Preventative maintenance techniques related to water treatment facilities, equipment and machinery. Safe work practices. Perform difficult and routine maintenance and repair tasks involving pumps, valves and motors. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Accurately read and record data from gauges and meters. Perform moderately heavy manual labor. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Physical Requirements: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Moderate physical effort is required by occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Very loud conditions may be encountered during operation of some equipment.

Education and Training:
High School Diploma or GED required Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance; specialized training or the ability to learn maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pumping equipment.. One year of experience performing work in maintenance or as a plant mechanic in a wastewater / water treatment plant preferred. Current, valid Colorado Driver’s License and good driving record required.
