Industrial Hygienist/Indoor Environmental Quality Manager

Under direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Industrial Hygienist/ Indoor Environmental Quality Manager participates in indoor air quality evaluations to determine the safety and health of classrooms and work areas within the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). Investigates indoor environmental concerns reported by school system staff, parents and visitors; ensures compliance with federal, state and local indoor environmental health regulations; and monitors compliance with HCPSS preventive maintenance standards. This position works closely with other offices and environmental contractors as needed in developing appropriate responses to indoor environmental issues, compiles and analyzes investigative reports and related records, conducts trend analysis and advises managers, administrators and senior leaders in prevention and mitigation activities related to indoor air quality. This position also responds to public concerns about indoor environmental quality in accordance with applicable laws, and HCPSS policy, supports health & safety initiatives related to indoor environmental quality, responds as directed to incidents affecting indoor air quality and manages routine projects as directed. The manager has supervisory responsibilities and work that may require the use of respiratory protection and environmental testing equipment as well as standing or walking for long periods.

This is a 12-month position on the Administrative Management and Technical Salary Scale, Grade 27. The current salary range is $84,833 -$143,996. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public School System. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is exempt from overtime.
